Following the ill-advised sale of Babe Ruth, October celebrations in the Bronx became seemingly annual. With “Murderers Row” at its peak in 1928, this baseball was autographed by the Baltimore-born slugger and teammate Lou Gehrig. The medium is a “Wilson” sphere with alternating red and black laces. Period shellac covers the keepsake, at times in uneven applications. On the sweet spot, Babe Ruth has signed in black-ink steel tip fountain pen. While portions have faded, the upper-case “B” and “R” characters are unmistakable attributes to a scripting that maintains (“4”) potency. On the north panel, Lou Gehrig has signed in black ink (“4-5” strength). There are (5) additional signatures (deemed “non-notable” by JSA) and an inscription of “10/28/28.” Full photo LOA from JSA.
