Before it became an infamously tragic date in history, September 11th was remembered as the day Pete Rose broke Ty Cobb's hit record–on the 57th anniversary of the Georgia Peach's last at-bat, no less. This tribute to #4,192 begins with a full ticket (encapsulated by PSA and graded VG-EX 4), then features a signed 1985 Reds milestone program (EX with unmarked scoring grids; humorously inscribed, "Ty Cobb / Ha Ha / Hit King"), a pair of signed 8x10 photos (NM, one inscribed, "1st Game Back 1989"), several pages of original typewritten news-wire articles about the event and, lastly, a 9/18/85 note on Reds stationery reading, "As you requested, enclosed are several copies of the Reds' scorebook from Sept. 11, 1985 ('The Hit') and two copies of the game notes from that night." Rose's blue-Sharpie signatures rate "10" strength. Auction LOA from JSA.
