Description

Stand-up HOF goaltender Jacques Plante was a game changing innovator who led the super talented Montreal Canadiens to six Stanley Cup championships during 1953-1960. Signed by fellow hockey HOFer Doug Harvey (“6-7”, auction LOA from JSA), this sixty-year old puck stopper features stampings consistent with other known models of the period with “Plante”, “Supplied by Raymond Hardware Ltd. Sporting Goods” and “CCM Pattern Made Pro” (partially covered with black tape). Overall this vintage stick presents in excellent condition with light signs of authentic game-use action. Among Plante’s numerous innovations were stopping the puck behind the net, stickhandling outside the crease, signaling his defensemen when “icing” would be called and his stand-up style of play. Most importantly to future generations of net-minders, Plante was the first goalie to wear a mask, doing so for the first time during the 1959-60 season while winning his sixth and final Stanley Cup. While considering this item, imagine the legendary players Plante may have stopped with this vintage “gamer”.
