“Give me liberty or give me death!” Spoken 240 years ago by renowned patriot Patrick Henry, these words struck a major chord, inciting Virginia’s pivotal 1775 resolution to provide troops for the American Revolution. Show your collecting resolve by casting the winning bid for this antique land document. Endorsed while serving as Governor of Virginia, “Founding Father” Henry’s stately signature radiates gorgeous (“7-8”) quality below the date “5/5/1784". Also present is the elegant signature of Commissioner of Army Accounts Thomas Meriwether (“5-6“) due to fading of the given name, while the surname presents much better. Part printed, part written this 6 x 3-3/4” laid paper military award remains in remarkably well-preserved state with crisp quality and bold text, with deference to one compacting fold and some minor tape residue on the reverse which does diminish the historically significant autographs. The text reads in full as “I DO Certify, That Levi Bridgewater is entitled to the proportion of land allowed a Private of the Continental line, for three years service”. Full photo LOA from JSA.
