With defensive wizardry as frequent as his patented back flips, shortstop Ozzie Smith took his talents to the Gateway City and helped power the Cardinals to three pennants and one World Series crown during his first six seasons is St. Louis. In the realm of Hall of Fame game-worn apparel items, few items rival this Redbird relic: a St. Louis Cardinals home jersey worn by Smith during the 1986 season as he secured his seventh of a record 13 Gold Glove Awards. The white knit pullover garment features “Cardinals” embroidered across the chest with the familiar birds-on-bat logo accenting the script-style lettering. In red-on-blue twill, the since-retired number “1” is sewn to the back and left front, while “O. SMITH” is arched atop the back number in like fashion. Red-white-and-blue striped stretch ribbed knit lines the sleeve endings, while the front tail’s interior is home to a “Rawlings’ size “40” label and a “SET 1 1986” flap tag. Graded A10 by MEARS, the all-original gamer shows heavy wear with dirt stains throughout. Full photo LOA from MEARS.
