Meeting in the Fall Classic for the first time since Babe Ruth’s ill-advised stolen base attempt ended Game 7 of the 1926 World Series, the New York Yankees and St. Louis Cardinals fielded wartime rosters in the 1942 installment. These (5) vintage wire photographs capture the principals and action of that October showdown. Each measures 17 x 11-1/4” and features black-and-white or sepia-toned imagery, as well as captions or printed identifiers as they appeared on the original negative. These diamond relics present beautifully with minor wear inherent to newsroom handling. Adding further appeal, these hail from the estate of Hall of Fame Redbirds skipper Billy Southworth.
