Description

Detailed description on website.

Before basking in the New York City spotlight and, eventually, earning World Series plaudits in Toronto, Hall of Famer Dave Winfield toiled for eight seasons in the Mission Valley where his numbers were impressive but his teams were not. This San Diego Padres cap was worn and autographed by the University of Minnesota product during the latter portion of his tenure (1973-1980) in San Diego. The brown wool accessory features a yellow front panel on which “SD” is embroidered in brown. A yellow button resides atop the six-point crown suspension, while the interior sweatband is home to a pre-1983 “New Era” label and a size “7-3/8” tag. On the bill’s underside, there are black marker notations of “31” and D.W.” Winfield has signed in black marker. In its entirety, the autograph projects (“8”) strength and clarity, though it endures interruptions because of multiple cracks along the bill. Heavy wear is evident. Auction LOA from JSA (for autograph).

Also included is a pair of "Brooks" shoes worn by Winfield (likely during his tenure in the Bronx). The black leather accessories feature white accents and manufacturer's labels on the tongues. There are six metal cleats affixed to the bottom of each. Heavy wear is evident and, while there are no size identifiers, these appear to be size "13."
