Based on its appearance and provenance, the vintage New Era cap appears most certainly to have been owned and worn by the Yankee Clipper—and our best guess puts it at 1970s-80s Old-Timers Games. "DiMaggio" is embroidered on the interior band, there are sweat marks and stains throughout, and the heavily soiled brim features Joe D's bold blue-Sharpie signature rating "8" due to a faint bleed. Accompanying photocopied letters from DiMaggio to die-hard fan Andrew Michael read: 1) 3/19/80 "Enclosed are my Yankee Caps that I promised you, sorry about the delay..."; and 2) 9/21/91 "As you requested to authenticate my Joe D. autographs on your bats, balls, photos, jackets, gloves, caps, etc., I do so on your Yankee stationery. O.K. you happy now? Regards, Joe." Auction LOA from JSA. Also included is a lightly toned OAL (MacPhail) ball with DiMaggio's blue-ink "9-10" signature. Full LOA from JSA.
