NOTE: This description has been modified to reflect that this lot actually has 26 different players of the 28 that were originally shown on the poster.
To the best of our knowledge and research, the only fully intact original poster resides in the Hall of Fame. Then there's a half-poster (with the other half recreated) belonging to a private collector out west. And finally we know of one complete set of the cut-out player "cards" in another western collection. Undoubtedly, none of these surviving examples will be made publicly available anytime soon, which makes this fresh offering that much more sought-after and valuable. The near set of 6"-tall figures each features brilliant colors, bold print and the fine-print credit line, "Copyright by Goodwin & Co. 1888." Familiar Old Judge portraits—both bust-length and full-length—showcase Dunlap, Ward, Andrews, Galvin, Denny, Williamson, Brouthers (partial mailing stamp adhered at lower left), Kelly, Tyng, Radbourn, Comiskey, Anson, Richardson, Clarkson, Miller, Whitney, Tiernan, Connor, Caruthers, Madden, Orr, Daly, Thompson, Glasscock, Keefe and Myers. Besides the off-cut dimensions, there is expected light peripheral wear and occasional faint soiling which in no way detract from the dramatic visuals.
