The reverse of this 8x10 photo provides UP's initial paper caption, "Washington takes lead in American League race," along with later news clippings of the re-published image and caption: "Walter Johnson, After seventeen years of laboring on the pitching mound for the Washington Team of the American League, will get his first chance to shine in a World's Series play, when the Senators clash with the Giants Saturday. Johnson won thirteen straight games for his team in its pennant drive, and has been voted the Most Valuable Player of the season in the American League. Washington fans are to give him an automobile and a cash purse that may reach the sum of $15,000." Light peripheral newsroom wear, pinholes in the margins and editorial highlights.
