Baseball historians expand your horizons to the international sphere with this extremely rare antique Cuban guidebook. Authored by Raoul Diez y Muro, this 160-page account tracks the championship teams from Cuban north shore provinces Havana, Matanzas and Cardenas for the period 1878-1907. Printed entirely in Spanish, this original 1907 edition is not to be confused with the plentiful examples printed decades to a century later. More on our website.
Moderate signs of wear appear mainly on the cover perimeter in the form of fairly unobtrusive soiling. As noted in the lot title, this book has been restored, seemingly by a professional. This restoration includes the spine and the bottom edge of the front cover. Otherwise this very appealing relic reports in solid condition with strong cover graphics, supple pages and fully legible text.
The title page reads in full as “El Base Ball en la Habana, Matanzas y Cardenas, Resumen de los campeonatos celebrados por nuestros clubs de profesionales, desde 1878 a 1907, por Raoul Diez y Muro con un prologo del Senor Rafael Conte, Habana Imprenta la Prueba, Obrapia 99. 1907”, which translates (to the best of our limited Spanish knowledge) as Baseball in Havana, Matanzas and Cardenas, Summary of the celebrated championships of our professional clubs from 1878 to 1907 by Raoul Diez y Muro with a prologue by Mr. Rafael Conte, Test Printing, 99 Obrapia, Havana 1907.
