Description

It's well established that Charles Conlon shot for Underwood & Underwood (or at least that his photos were published/distributed by U & U) during 1927-28—with even his famous "eyes" series and '27 World Series shots bearing U & U stamps. This 8x10 Lazzeri photo does not explicitly credit the master photographer, yet the full-length pre-game throwing pose does show the hallmarks of Conlon's composition style. U & U's stamp appears on the reverse along with an intact example of the company's desirable colored paper captions, in this instance of the orange variety: "Tony Lazzeri, dependable infielder of the champion New York American League baseball team, gets ready for the world's series by throwing a few fast ones." Clean, well-preserved central image area with several edge chips and tiny edge tears confined to the white margins.
